Entritin - The First Biocompatible Cell-Penetrating Peptide
김주영 박사(National University of Singapore)
Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) can freely translocate across the cell membrane, making them useful for delivery of cell impermeable molecules into the cell. The most well-known and widely used CPP is Tat, which is derived from the human immunodeficiency virus. However, Tat is unsuitable for oral drug delivery application because it is rapidly degraded by digestive enzymes. Our aim is to develop a CPP which can deliver cell-impermeable drugs into cells via the oral route. This technology will enable the use of lipid insoluble compounds as therapeutics. It will also enable oral delivery of image contrast agents for biomedical imaging applications. We have developed a novel CPP for such purpose and named it Entritin. Key characteristics of Entritin include protease resistance, small size, safe source, and neutral electric charge.
